Join WABIDA for a focused book study on Beneath the Surface of Words by Sue Scibetta Hegland. This book explains the meaningful, structural systems underlying English spelling, how English spelling is not arbitrary, and shows how spelling conveys meaning, history, and pronunciation. Together, we will explore what English spelling reveals and how this knowledge supports students with dyslexia. 📚 This small-group series is designed for educators, families, and advocates who want concrete tools for decoding, spelling, and instruction. By registering, you’ll receive meeting details, materials, and updates from the International Dyslexia Association Washington State Branch. 🧠 Objective: to support the understanding that spelling shows word families and meanings, not just pronunciation, and to shift from memorizing words to understanding their meaning and spelling.
